Country estate garden designed to work beautifully and optimise views near Lingfield Surrey

Beautiful design is at the heart of everything we do.  Beautiful design means creating spaces that not only look beautiful, but that work beautifully as well: design that creates the right living spaces, movement and views.  Dewlands Garden Design was founded by Eugene Hill, who has been designing – and working out how to improve his designs – since he could hold a pencil.  He’s consolidated this natural passion with a Postgraduate Diploma in Residential Design with distinction from the Oxford School of Garden Design. He is also actively engaged with the Society of Garden Designers as a Pre-Registered Member.

Garden design expertise used to create the inspiring design of handmade sculptural handrails in garden Rotherfield near Wadhurst

Our flair for inspiring design is complemented by our background in engineering.  Our founder, Eugene Hill, won the Institute of Electrical Engineering’s Award for Manufacturing Student of the Year when he graduated with a first-class honours degree from the University of Warwick.  This expertise enables us to offer a unique service, providing small architectural design services alongside garden design, giving us total project vision where house meets garden.  It also enables us to turn challenges, such as steeply sloping plots, into opportunities: we can both design and engineer optimal solutions so you get the most out of your home and garden.

We understand our clients because we have lived in your world.  For 20 years, we have followed a high-pressure, professional career with world-class organisations, juggling commuting, long hours and lots of travel. We know that you are busy – so you want solutions, not problems.  We know that you’re professional – so you expect a professional service.  We know that you always deliver – so you want experts who will keep your project on time and on budget.  So that is what we offer.  And we’re very good at listening: it’s your house, your garden, your lifestyle, your ambitions, your dreams, your investment.  We take the time to understand all of these, so we can design and build your ideal outdoor space that will add value now and in the future.

Successful planning permission in rural environments for small architectural commissions garden offices, garage conversions and gazebos area of Rye

We have good success with planning, particularly in the rural environment and where less sympathetic proposals by others have failed in the past.  Our trick is to create good working relationships with planners, rather than confrontation.  We know what they won’t approve – so we work with them to see what they might consider acceptable.  Then we liaise with you to devise a solution that matches your aspirations but that will also win over the planners.
